Carlos Pisco is a New York–based artist working primarily in drawing and woodcut printmaking. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he began studying painting and drawing at a young age, developing a lifelong interest in observation, line, and form.

After moving to New York City in 1990, he began studying printmaking at the School of Visual Arts. A few years later, he joined the school’s printmaking faculty and has since taught Continuing Education courses in relief printing and monotype.

Drawing has remained central to his practice, ranging from detailed studies to more immediate observational sketches. Woodcut printmaking has become an increasingly important part of his work, translating the directness of drawing into the physical process of carving and printing by hand.

His work explores architecture, landscape, the human figure, and the natural world, informed by places, people, and everyday subjects encountered both in New York and through travel.
